In conjunction with National Nurses Week, The Tennessean honors local nurses by hosting the Salute to Nurses awards and luncheon.

Nearly 300 nurses, healthcare professionals, friends and family attended the 12th annual luncheon on Tuesday, May 6 at the Downtown Hilton.

More than 180 nominations were received from our readers. As a part of the program, each nominee received an invite to the luncheon, where they were all recognized.

Five special awards were presented to the following nurses:

Caring Heart Award: Erin Clum, ER nurse, Saint Thomas Midtown

Community Outreach Award: Beverly Byram, program director of the Part D Ryan White Program at Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic

Vision of Nursing Award: Kathy Mathis, clinical case manager/lead nurse, Screaming Eagle Medical Home in Clarksville

Lifetime Achievement Award: Judy Eades, owner/consultant with Key Management Associates, president of End-of-Life Partnership.

Nurse of the Year: Lori Rushing, orthopedic advanced practice nurse, Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance

The Nurse of the Year, Lori Rushing, was awarded a $5,000 shopping spree courtesy of Dillards at The Mall at Green Hills. The Tennessean’s Shopping Diva, Cathi Aycock, emceed the event and offered to be Rushing’s personal shopper. Look for more from us on that special experience.

This event could not be possible without the support of our sponsors, including Saint Thomas Health, TriStar Health, Marian University at Saint Thomas Health, Sumner Regional Medical Center, Williamson Medical Center, Dillard’s at The Mall at Green Hills and the Tennessee Nurses Association.

If you have a nurse who you would like to nominate for the 2015 Salute to Nurses program, email or post here and we will follow up with you on the nomination period.
